Nixon Upsets Vindman in Senate Primary
State Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville, upset Alex Vindman in Tuesday's Democrat primary for U.S. Senate, taking about 56% of the vote. Vindman, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who testified in President Trump's first impeachment, entered as the front-runner and raised $16.2 million to Nixon's roughly $1 million, but largely ignored her during the campaign. Nixon, a Democratic Socialists of America member, has served in the Florida House since 2020 and faces Sen. Ashley Moody in November for the final two years of Marco Rubio's term. "We are strong, we are united, and it's going to take all of us to win in November," she told supporters. In the governor's race, Republican U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly won their nominations to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis. Donalds, endorsed by Trump, took about 48% in an 11-candidate field. No Democrat has won a Florida governor's race since 1994. |
UHealth Passes 20,000 Robotic Surgeries
UHealth, the University of Miami Health System, announced it has surpassed 20,000 robotic-assisted surgeries, a milestone spanning specialties from urology and gynecology to thoracic and orthopedic procedures. Dr. Dipen Parekh, the health system's chief executive officer and director of robotic surgery, said the procedures typically mean smaller incisions, less pain, and shorter recovery times than traditional open surgery. The University of Miami was the first academic medical center in the world to acquire the da Vinci Xi system in 2014, and UHealth plans to expand robotic surgery to its satellite centers. |
Four Florida Beaches Crack US Top 10
Four Florida beaches ranked among the top 10 in the U.S. in Tripadvisor's 2026 Travelers' Choice awards, led by Clearwater Beach at No. 2 behind only California's La Jolla Cove. Siesta Beach, St. Andrews State Park, and Honeymoon Island State Park also made the list at Nos. 6, 8, and 10, respectively. Clearwater also ranked 17th worldwide, the only Florida beach to make the global list. The rankings draw on millions of traveler reviews covering a 12-month period, and fewer than 1% of Tripadvisor's 8 million listings earn the Best of the Best designation. |
