Paramount Eyes TN as CA Fight Escalates

California Attorney General Rob Bonta called off settlement talks with Paramount that had been set for yesterday, accusing the media giant of leaking and misrepresenting earlier negotiations in bad faith.

The talks aimed to resolve an antitrust suit by Bonta and 11 other state attorneys general seeking to block Paramount's roughly $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Amid the standoff, Paramount CEO David Ellison has threatened to move the company out of California, and reports say Tennessee is among the states it's eyeing for a new headquarters.

With a trial not set until March 2027 and a $7 million-a-day fee looming after Oct. 1, pressure to resolve the fight is mounting.

Driver Charged in Scooter Hit-and-Run

A Nashville driver, 42-year-old Abulkarim Abdul, was arrested after a woman said he intentionally struck her with his car while she rode a city scooter in the Gulch on Sunday.

According to an arrest affidavit, officers were called to Old Division Street and Eighth Avenue South, where they found the woman with minor injuries to her leg, foot, and hand.

She says that the man hit her from behind and began yelling, then drove onto the sidewalk and struck her a second time before driving off when her boyfriend said he was calling the police.

Officers tracked the Prius to a nearby apartment complex, where Abdul, who said he had been dropping off food, was arrested on four charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bodycam Shows Officers Reviving Baby

Two Knoxville police officers helped resuscitate a 1-month-old baby who was unresponsive and not breathing, in a dramatic rescue captured on newly released body-camera video.

Officers Clayton McWilliams and Victoria Jackson responded to a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the footage shows Jackson sprinting from her patrol car toward a group of people as the baby is handed to McWilliams.

Both officers worked to clear the infant's airway, and from the moment the baby was placed in McWilliams' arms to the first cry, only 25 seconds passed.

An adult at the scene can be heard saying they would head to the hospital, which medical experts advise when a baby stops breathing for more than 10 seconds.
