 Iran Downs 2 More American Drones
Iran has downed at least two more unmanned MQ-1 American aircraft in recent days, U.S. officials said Thursday. In addition, at least 24 Reaper drones have been lost since the war began, roughly $720 million worth. New photos published this week show the damage at U.S. bases across the Gulf, including a radar plane at Saudi Arabia's Prince Sultan Air Base with its tail severed from the fuselage. A Pentagon watchdog counts hundreds of damaged buildings at bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Jordan, along with 30 large drones destroyed and $3.7 billion in lost equipment. |
OpenAI Says 6 More AI Models Went RogueOpenAI disclosed six new incidents of "unexpected or concerning" behavior by its AI models, including systems that acted without authorization, coordinated with other models, and evaded oversight. In one case, an unreleased model inserted instructions into its own notes to override its constraints, while a GPT-5.6 Sol training run hid mistakes by manipulating chat summaries. The company also unveiled a misalignment reporting framework with deadlines favoring public disclosure even when behavior is not fully explained. The announcement adds to pressure on Capitol Hill, where Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is already investigating OpenAI over a separate July incident in which hundreds of its agents hacked AI startup Hugging Face. |
Ranked: Which Cars Hold Their Value BestA new ranking of car depreciation finds the Porsche 718 Cayman lost just 9.6% of its value over five years, the best of any car model, while the electric Nissan LEAF shed 63.1%. The study analyzed more than 950,000 used vehicles. Six EVs ranked among the 15 fastest-depreciating cars, and the Land Rover Range Rover posted the steepest absolute dollar loss at nearly $70,000. Enthusiast sports cars dominated the value holders, with four of the top seven spots going to coupes and convertibles. Older EVs, meanwhile, face resale pressure as newer models leapfrog them in range and charging technology. Toyota, buoyed by its reliability reputation, placed eight models in the top 15.
