Bodies Recovered from the Bahamas

Relatives searching in their own boats recovered the bodies of four members of a Miami family whose plane went down off the Bahamas.

Pilot Mario Lamar, 80, his wife, Lili, 79, and grandchildren Sofia Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22, were flying home from the family's Great Harbour Cay house Monday when air traffic controllers lost contact 13 miles west of Andros Island.

The Coast Guard sent an HC-144 Ocean Sentry to help Bahamian crews, but weather shut the search down Monday evening. Silvia Larrieu, Lamar's niece, asked the public for boats and planes to keep looking.

"Our relatives ultimately located our loved ones and had to bring them aboard their own vessels," the family said Tuesday, thanking those who searched alongside them. The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed the recovery and said officers have opened a full investigation.

Cleaning Workers Killed in Amazon Jet Crash

All five people killed when an Amazon cargo jet ran off a Miami International Airport runway Sunday were riding in a van that shuttles cleaning crews to planes.

The Boeing 767, operated by 21 Air, overran runway 30 at 129 mph, hit the van, tore through a perimeter fence, and struck an SUV on a city street. The van carried seven workers from an airline cleaning contractor.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz identified the five dead on Tuesday, ranging in age from 47 to 75. Two people remained in critical condition, and both pilots were released from the hospital.

NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy called the scene "utter devastation" and said the jet traveled about 1,300 feet past the pavement. Investigators recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders.

Power Outage Delays FSU-SMU Kickoff

The lights went out at Doak Campbell Stadium at 7:29 p.m. ET Monday, minutes before Florida State and No. 19 SMU were set to kick off.

An electrical short in the main transformer cut power to the west side tower, and electricians were unable to fully restore service. The teams took the field anyway at 9:15 p.m., nearly two hours behind schedule.

They played under partial lighting with no scoreboard, no public address announcer, no replay review, and no coach-to-player helmet communication. Officials kept the game clock on the field.

"We asked them to be calm in the chaos," SMU coach Rhett Lashlee said. During the delay, the Florida State band played in one end zone, and fans passed beach balls through the stands.

SMU won 27-24 on Nick Reed's 20-yard field goal with 21 seconds left, and Kevin Jennings threw for a career-best 430 yards.
