A climber died Sunday after falling on the north face of Castle Peak, the 14,265-foot summit straddling the Gunnison and Pitkin county line.

Gunnison County dispatchers took the call just after noon and requested assistance from Pitkin County at 12:41 p.m. Mountain Rescue Aspen and Flight for Life responded.

Rescuers rode off-highway vehicles to the upper Montezuma parking lot while a helicopter located the climber, and crews reached the site around 4 p.m. to find injuries that were not survivable.

The death was the second in the area in less than a week. The body of a climber who died on Maroon Peak is expected to be recovered Tuesday, with the peak closed during the mission.

Gas prices set record Labor Day highs nationwide, with Colorado's average for regular at $4.19 a gallon, just above the national average of $4.15.

Both figures top the previous Labor Day record of $3.82, set in 2012. Low crude supplies, heavy refinery demand, and global conflict were all cited as causes.

Diesel is squeezing harder, reaching a record national average of $5.85 a gallon on Friday. Colorado's diesel average sat around $5.54.

Prices vary widely by region, with AAA figures putting Greeley near $4.04 for regular and Glenwood Springs near $4.87. A year ago the state average was $3.24.

Before You Spend Money on Peptides, See What Your DNA Says

Peptides have become one of the biggest topics of conversation in anti-aging, longevity, weight loss, recovery, and muscle growth. But here’s the problem: the same peptide may not work the same way for everyone.

The Pep Report analyzes more than 710,000 genetic markers and compares them against published research to help identify which peptides and nutraceuticals your biology may support.

And because your DNA doesn’t change, you only need to test it once. A simple cheek swab gives you genetic information you can reference as you explore different options, rather than spending money blindly and hoping something works.

The Flyover readers automatically get 10% off, no code needed. See which peptides match your DNA.
