Lawsuit Seeks to End ICE Partnership

The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition asked a federal court for an injunction to halt the Tennessee Highway Patrol's collaboration with ICE on immigration enforcement.

Its attorneys argue that troopers made traffic stops based on drivers' race during spring 2025's "Operation Flood the Zone" in Nashville, letting ICE agents riding along make immigration arrests.

The suit, which names THP Col. Matt Perry and state safety officials, raises Fourth Amendment and Equal Protection Clause claims, while the state counters that the plaintiffs lack standing and that the partnership makes Tennessee safer.

U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger heard arguments this week and said she would issue a decision soon. The case could set a significant precedent for how state police and federal immigration authorities work together.

Parton Estate Seeks Order Against Nephew

The company managing Dolly Parton's estate is seeking a restraining order against her nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver.

She's Alive, the firm Parton created to steward her legacy, filed the request in a Nashville court, alleging Seaver launched an "escalating campaign of threats" to extract money from the estate.

The filing claims Seaver vowed to "destroy the entire brand," including Dollywood, and described his security operation as a heavily armed, paramilitary-style force.

Seaver was dismissed as head of security last Tuesday. The dispute has thrown the beloved country icon's business empire into legal turmoil less than a month after her death on Aug. 25.

Knoxville's Tallest Building Hits the Market

First Horizon Plaza, the tallest building in Knoxville, is up for sale, listed by real estate firm CBRE with no asking price publicly disclosed.

The 27-story tower at 800 Gay Street stands 327 feet tall, spans about 463,000 square feet, and is the only building in the city with its own ZIP code.

Floors four and up are 92% leased to tenants including First Horizon, UBS, and Texas Instruments, while lower floors sit at 58% occupancy after $2.5 million in recent upgrades.

It's the second downtown Knoxville tower to hit the market this year, after Apex Bank bought the Riverview Tower in April. The building's future will be watched as a bellwether for downtown's commercial market.
