Trump Unveils $15B Iowa Steel Plant

President Trump announced Monday that Mesabi Metallics will build a $15 billion steel plant in Iowa, the largest in U.S. history. Production is slated to start in 2030, providing about 1,750 permanent jobs.

The Minnesota-based company will feed the mill with ore from its new $2.5 billion iron mine in Minnesota's Mesabi Range, the first new U.S. iron mine in 50 years. The plant's exact site hasn't been named, though Energy Secretary Chris Wright said it will be in southeast Iowa.

The Export-Import Bank is backing Mesabi's expansion with up to $10 billion in financing, and the White House says the steel will meet defense-grade requirements.

Biden Title IX Gender Rule Officially Scrapped

The Education Department on Monday formally rescinded the Biden-era Title IX rule that had extended the law's sex discrimination protections to sexual orientation and gender identity. Schools now return to the 2020 regulations written under the first Trump administration.

The Biden rule had already been struck down in court after challenges from Republican-led states. Education Secretary Linda McMahon said the department will "hold accountable any school or college that violates the rights, privacy, or athletic opportunities of our women and girls."

Opponents say the change harms transgender students and weakens protections for sexual assault victims. The National Women's Law Center accused the administration of "weaponizing Title IX to attack trans students."

After a down-to-the-wire final day, the 2026 Major League Baseball playoff field is set, and all four best-of-three wildcard series open today, headlined by the Boston Red Sox visiting the New York Yankees. Here are the games and how to watch.

Sunday’s scramble included the Houston Astros clinching the American League West after finishing 81-81, becoming the first division champion in MLB history without a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers remain favorites to become the first National League team to win three straight World Series titles, while the Milwaukee Brewers enter with baseball's best record at 103-59. The Cleveland Guardians, the AL's No. 2 seed, look to end the sport's longest title drought, which dates to 1948.
