Gas Station Lawsuit, a Catawba County Search, a Classroom on Wheels

Lawsuit Alleges Tainted Gas Sales

Two North Carolina residents allege in a federal lawsuit that Quality Oil Company and affiliate Reliable Tank Line mixed contaminated fuel into clean gasoline loads and delivered the mixture to at least 130 stations for at least a decade.

The complaint says the fuel was blended without first testing what was in it. The plaintiffs are seeking class-action status for customers who bought Quality Oil fuel during the four years before the case was filed on May 29, 2025.

The companies called the allegations meritless and said in an August court filing that their fuel delivery and sales practices comply with North Carolina law.

Police Search Home for Possible Remains

Long View police and State Bureau of Investigation agents searched a home Tuesday after receiving a tip that human remains might be buried beneath the residence.

Court documents said the tip alleged that a former resident buried two bodies beneath a bedroom approximately 18 years ago and covered them with lime. Investigators used a cadaver dog and removed HVAC ductwork to reach the crawl space.

Authorities have not announced whether anything was found. Police said the investigation remains active and there was no known threat to the public.

Daimler Opens Ballantyne Headquarters

Daimler Truck Financial Services USA opened Tuesday its new $7.8 million North American headquarters in Charlotte’s Ballantyne area. Around 350 employees will work there.

The 60,000-square-foot office consolidates regional operations and serves customers across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Officials originally said the relocation would account for 276 Charlotte positions, including 193 newly created jobs and 83 transfers. The state-supported project is housed in the Boyle Building at 13034 Ballantyne Corporate Place.

➤ And once more Statewide: North Carolina’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education unanimously approved recommendations addressing early literacy and teacher pay. The plan called for the state to adopt and fund up to three K-3 reading curricula by May 2028 and establish a 2028 teacher-pay target. (See Plan)

➤ Charlotte: Realtor and NASCAR team owner Heather Gibbs listed her renovated Myers Park estate for $7.25 million. The 1.3-acre property on Hermitage Road includes a pool, basketball and pickleball court, batting cage, and putting green. (See Listing)
