Jeffco Public Schools Sues DOE

Jeffco Public Schools sued the Trump administration Tuesday, seeking to block the Department of Education (DOE) from withholding roughly $50 million in federal funding.

The Office for Civil Rights found that the district's policies on transgender sports participation and overnight field trip accommodations violate Title IX, the federal law barring sex discrimination in education.

The suit alleges the administration is demanding that Jeffco violate Colorado's anti-discrimination law based on an untested reading of Title IX, and that the required corrective actions violate the First Amendment.

The district has disputed the finding that 61 male students occupied roster positions on girls' teams, saying it contradicts the data Jeffco originally gave investigators.

DOE Investigating DPS

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) said Tuesday it's investigating Denver Public Schools (DPS) over allegations that a high school teacher required students of the same sex to kiss in front of a class.

Federal officials said the probe will examine whether the district ignored any opt-out requests, whether parents were notified in advance, and whether DPS met Title IX requirements in handling the incident.

The allegation matches a previously reported incident at Northeast Early College, a Denver high school, where an independent review found that students in a French class felt pressured to kiss same-sex classmates during in-class skits.

DPS said it placed the teacher on leave after learning of student concerns in March 2025, and the school board voted to fire her in May.

The bright spot was education, where Colorado ranked No. 1 in the nation after passing Massachusetts in educational attainment, a milestone Gov. Jared Polis called one of his proudest as governor.

The state landed in the bottom six for fiscal stability and public safety, at No. 45 and No. 47, and it ranks 39th in high school graduation rate at 82.7% despite the top education mark.

A month ago, the Minnesota Star Tribune won a Pulitzer Prize. Last week, it announced it's cutting 15% of its staff.

That's been the shape of the whole year. In February, the Washington Post eliminated more than 300 newsroom jobs and closed its sports and books desks outright. The BBC is shedding up to 2,000 roles. BuzzFeed and HuffPost cut about a third of their people. In Pittsburgh, the Post-Gazette shuttered its entire opinion section and published its last editorial.

Here's what none of those outlets will say out loud: this is what happens when you spend years telling your audience what to think instead of what happened. Readers can tell when the news is tilted, and they've been walking away by the millions.

The numbers back it up. Gallup now finds just 28% of Americans trust the media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. That's the lowest it has ever measured.

The legacy media created this problem. The Colorado Flyover was built to be the solution, and the difference is simple. They editorialize in their reporting. We don't. They tell you what to think about the news; we just show you what happened, clearly and fairly, and trust you to make up your own mind.

And it's working: while they shrink, we're about to cross six million readers. Six million Americans who start their morning with the facts and decide for themselves. They're fleeing the spin, and they're finding us.
