Audit Flunks School Grades

An Arizona Auditor General review found the state's A–F school letter grades do not accurately reflect how schools are actually performing.

Most schools receive A or B grades, even though most students do not test proficient. Math proficiency at the 117 high schools given an A ranged from under 10% to nearly 98%.

The state board and department of education agreed with the findings and plan to adopt the auditor's 13 recommendations, with revised grades possible by November 2027.

Auditors noted that Arizona's use of bonus points resulted in 149 schools getting an "A" they otherwise would not have earned. They also flagged self-reported college and career readiness data that went unverified in 2024 and 2025.

GOP Races Heat Up

Arizona Republicans are jockeying in the final stretch before the July 21 primary, with contests up and down the ballot set to shape the November field.

In the governor's race, polls show U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs with a wide lead over U.S. Rep. David Schweikert for the nomination to challenge Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs, who is running unopposed.

In the 5th Congressional District, President Trump reaffirmed his endorsement of former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, calling him a "MAGA Warrior."

Other Republican and Democrat primary races are also drawing interest and money statewide, from secretary of state to attorney general.

D-backs Surge Into All-Star Break

The Arizona Diamondbacks stormed into the All-Star break with a four-game winning streak, capped by a road sweep of the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Two Diamondbacks earned a spot in today's All-Star Game in Philadelphia: outfielder Corbin Carroll, his third selection, and left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Diamondbacks' surge lifted the team to No. 15 in this week's Bleacher Report power rankings and came despite the loss of pitcher Zac Gallen to the injured list.

Arizona climbed to 49-47 with its sweep of the Dodgers, within reach of a National League Wild Card spot.
