Iran Hits US Bases as War Reignites

The war with Iran ramped back up on Wednesday with the heaviest exchange since July. U.S. strikes hit Revolutionary Guard targets Tuesday night, and Iran answered with missiles and drones at bases hosting American troops in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. No U.S. casualties were reported.

Iranian officials accused Washington of striking a wedding party in southern Iran, killing four people. A U.S. military spokesman said the reports came from Iranian state media, are being looked into, and that the U.S. never targets civilians.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded near $95 a barrel on Wednesday, about 40% higher than a year ago. Stocks fell in Asia and Europe.

President Trump warned that if Iran keeps retaliating, "they'll be no longer." He also asked on Truth Social whether the strait should be renamed the "TRUMP STRAIT." See the post here.

Germany Accuses Russia in Failed Leipzig Attack

Germany formally blamed Russia Tuesday for a failed drone attack on Leipzig's airport, citing forensic evidence and intelligence findings. Until this week, Berlin had said only that "foreign powers" may have been involved.

A drone carrying explosives that failed to detonate was found on Aug. 4 beside a Ukrainian cargo plane that shuttles ammunition out of Leipzig. A bomb squad defused it, and similar drones turned up near the airport in the weeks after.

Berlin answered by closing Russia's last consulate in the country, shutting a cultural center suspected of spying, and tightening entry rules for Russian citizens.

The EU and NATO vowed to step up pressure on Moscow, with EU chief Ursula von der Leyen calling Leipzig "a new escalation" on European Union soil. President Putin condemned Germany's response as a serious mistake.

US Mint Starts Selling Trump $1 Coins

The U.S. Mint began selling $1 coins stamped with President Trump's likeness Wednesday to mark the nation's 250th anniversary. The gold-colored dollars, which contain no actual gold, sell in rolls of 25 for $61 and bags of 100 for $154.50.

Trump's portrait appears beneath "Liberty," with "1776 ~ 2026" below and the presidential eagle on the back. See the coin here. The Mint randomly mixed in 250,000 coins struck on July 4 bearing a special holiday mark.

Federal law generally bars living presidents from appearing on U.S. currency. Officials leaned on an anniversary exception, and Trump called the idea "very unusual" but said he was "honored by it."

Orders are capped at two rolls or bags per household until this afternoon, and the first batch sold out within hours Wednesday. They're billed as "special circulating dollar coins," so some could eventually turn up in your change.
