For the first time on record, a collared gray wolf crossed east of Interstate 25, making a wide loop across the state's southeastern corner before returning west.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) confirmed the animal traveled through watersheds in Pueblo, Otero, and Las Animas counties before looping back across the interstate.

CPW releases monthly watershed maps showing areas where GPS-collared wolves have been tracked in the last 30 days. See the May-June map here.

The behavior "highlights the broad movements made by dispersing wolves," CPW said, adding that the agency is coordinating with nearby ranchers.

The owners of Davis Mortuary in Pueblo—former county coroner Brian Cotter, 64, and his brother Christopher Cotter, 60—were arrested Thursday following a monthslong investigation into decomposing bodies found at the funeral home.

Both men face 125 counts of abuse of a corpse, nine counts of forgery, and multiple counts of theft. All but two of the charges are felonies, and a judge set bond for each at $1 million cash surety.

On Aug. 20, 2025, during a routine inspection of the mortuary, state inspectors discovered 24 decomposing bodies hidden behind a barricaded door. Nineteen have been identified.

Brian Cotter is due in county court for a virtual advisement hearing later today. His first appearance is slated for July 2.

Severe storms continued to pummel the Eastern Plains Wednesday night into Thursday, with Morgan County hit especially hard and a tornado confirmed in Logan County.

In Fort Morgan, baseball-sized hail shattered vehicle windshields, broke windows on homes, and damaged buildings at Riverside Park. The city recorded hail measuring 2.75 inches in diameter.

In Wiggins, one resident said the hail sounded like baseballs being thrown at her house, shattering her minivan's windshield, blowing out windows, and punching holes through a backyard slide.

On the Front Range, in Evergreen and Kittredge, 6 inches of rain fell in two hours, flooding Bear Creek, washing out private bridges, depositing mud and rock debris across roads, and prompting multiple closures.
