Arizona is accelerating workforce training programs as the state projects 700,000 job openings by 2030, driven by semiconductor manufacturing, healthcare growth, and logistics expansion.

The Office of Economic Opportunity is launching community college partnerships and registered apprenticeship programs aimed at workers displaced by automation. TSMC's north Phoenix chip plant and Intel's Chandler campus are creating high-skill jobs faster than current pipelines can fill them.

The state is targeting workers in transition by expanding stackable credentials at Maricopa and Pima community colleges, letting adults earn industry certifications while employed. Healthcare and logistics sectors are driving demand statewide.

Officials warn Arizona's economic momentum risks stalling if the workforce pipeline can't keep pace. Apprenticeship enrollment needs to double by 2027 to hit state targets, according to the office.

Article Icon 1 FAA Eyes Valley Flight Path Overhaul

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is weighing a sweeping redesign of flight paths over the Phoenix metro, and Phoenix has concerns about the plan.

The proposal is part of the agency's nationwide NextGen airspace modernization effort, shifting the Valley away from dispersed flight routes onto precise, satellite-guided corridors. The FAA says the change would cut fuel consumption and reduce delays at Sky Harbor International Airport.

The tradeoff is noise. Concentrated corridors mean concentrated aircraft overhead, and some Valley neighborhoods could see significantly more air traffic while others see relief, depending on where new routes land.

Phoenix officials say residents in affected areas have had little meaningful input so far. The city is pushing the FAA to commit to a more open community review before any routes over the Valley are finalized.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off June 11, running through July 19 across 16 host cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, energizing Arizona fans and boosting local businesses.

The U.S. Men's National Team opened its campaign Friday, June 12, defeating Paraguay 4-1, drawing large crowds to watch parties throughout the Phoenix metro area.

Bars and restaurants statewide organized viewing events, with venues across Phoenix, Mesa, and Scottsdale. In Tucson some businesses are offering early openings, drink specials, and dozens of screens.

While the watch parties are predominantly centered in the Phoenix and Tucson metros, several smaller towns such as Flagstaff and Yuma are also hosting watch parties at local independent pubs and breweries.
