Article Icon 1Peters Rallies Supporters After Prison Release

Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters told a packed crowd at a conservative festival in Castle Rock on Friday that her supporters were "my heroes."

Peters spoke at Rocky Mountain Voice's two-day Freedom Festival about 25 days after her release from prison. She urged the crowd to "stand up and fight back", warning that what happened to her could happen to them.

A Republican elected in 2018, Peters was convicted in 2024 of felony and misdemeanor counts tied to a 2021 breach of Mesa County's voting equipment and sentenced to roughly nine years. Gov. Jared Polis commuted that sentence in May, citing a formal apology.

No fraud was found in Mesa County's 2020 election, and Peters' case remains before the Colorado Supreme Court.

Article Icon 1Hot, Dry Weekend Elevates Fire Danger

Hot, dry, and gusty weather is driving up fire danger across Southern Colorado this weekend, with the highest risk west of Interstate 25.

The National Weather Service has posted red flag warnings as afternoon highs climb into the 80s and 90s—triple digits in spots—alongside wind gusts of 25 to 40 mph and single-digit humidity.

The dry, windy pattern reaches statewide: the Denver area faces a hot, sunny stretch, while the Western Slope braces for strong gusts of its own.

Forecasters urged residents to avoid open flames, secure trailer chains, and skip mowing or grinding near dry grass, all of which can throw a spark.

Colorado firefighters and researchers are at the center of new authorization for federal wildland firefighters to wear N95 respirators on the fire line for the first time, a reversal of decades of Forest Service policy.

The change addresses wildfire smoke, which studies link to higher rates of lung cancer and heart disease among firefighters who often worked in it with only a bandanna.

Colorado State University has been a hub of that research, where scientists have spent years documenting wildfire smoke's health effects and launched a Rocky Mountain symposium on firefighter exposure.

Officials called the masks an interim step, noting no respirator yet meets federal workplace standards for the grueling conditions on a fire line.

Science & Technology

Dear Colorado Flyover Reader,

If you chose not to invest in The Flyover’s fundraising campaign but still want to support us, this one's for you.

The Colorado Flyover will always be free. Producing it isn't.

So, two honest questions:

Do you rely on us for news without the spin? Is fact-first journalism worth fighting for?

If your answer is yes, hear me out.

Behind every morning email is a team of real people working to bring you the news clearly and fairly, without an agenda pulling the coverage one way or the other. We don't answer to advertisers or a corporate parent, we answer to you.

So today, we're asking: if The Colorado Flyover has earned a place in your morning, will you chip in to help keep it going strong?

Maybe you're wondering whether $10 really makes a difference. It does. But here's the thing—it makes a huge difference when a thousand of you decide to chip in together.

We've seen it work. When we opened The Flyover up to investment, thousands of readers stepped in—not billionaires, not a corporation with an angle, just people who read this every morning. That's how we stay independent: lots of readers, each doing a little, adding up to something no single backer could buy.

This is a simple, powerful way to support true, independent journalism.

So, will you be one of the thousand? Even $10 says you believe in what we're building. $50 or $100 helps us grow, launch new editions, and deliver more of the news America is hungry for.

Donations from readers are an important revenue source for The Colorado Flyover, and I hope you will help if you can.

Thanks for reading—every morning, and today.
