Delta Bets Big on the Pacific

Delta Air Lines is on an international expansion tear, announcing a wave of new Pacific and Asian routes as part of the carrier's most aggressive global push in years.

Delta President Peter Carter said the Atlanta-based company wants to become the biggest U.S. carrier for trans-Pacific travel and, beyond that, “The real goal is to become the leading global carrier, which is a pretty audacious goal.”

Currently, United Airlines claims the title of world’s largest airline, based on revenue passenger miles. Delta carries more passengers; however, longer flights can generate more revenue per passenger than shorter trips.

Delta launched daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and Hong Kong on June 6, the airline's first Hong Kong flight in eight years. Delta also plans future service to Singapore and Manila, and flights to Seoul from more U.S. cities.

Aquarium Tops 50 Million Visitors

The Georgia Aquarium welcomed its 50 millionth visitor since opening its doors in downtown Atlanta in 2005, making the site one of the most-visited aquariums in the world.
