GOP Convention Officially Underway
Texas Republicans opened the 2026 Republican Party of Texas State Convention on Thursday at Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center, under a historically unified spirit. Gov. Greg Abbott emerged as a top sponsor, while Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows becomes the first sitting speaker to address the gathering, signaling reconciliation between elected officials and grassroots activists. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Abbott, Burrows, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick are scheduled to speak today, urging Republicans to unify as a party ahead of challenging November midterms. During the convention the party will adopt an official platform, decide who will hold important leadership roles, and set the legislative priorities that will guide Texas Republicans over the next two years. |
Couple Sentenced to 40 Years for Pyramid Scheme
A Frisco couple was sentenced to 40 years each in federal prison for running a $30 million illegal pyramid scheme that defrauded more than 10,000 people nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. LaShonda Moore, 38, and Marlon Moore, 39, were convicted by a jury in January on conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering charges, the Justice Department said. Their "Blessings in No Time" program operated from June 2020 to June 2021. Prosecutors said the couple promised 800% returns on a $1,400 investment, recruiting participants through weekly livestreams onto tiered "playing boards" that required constant new members to sustain payouts. A federal judge also ordered the couple to pay more than $4.3 million in restitution, followed by three years of supervised release after their prison terms. |
