Primary Ballots Hit Mailboxes Today
Registered voters will start receiving ballots in the mail for the June 30 primary today, with party elections for multiple local, state, and federal offices. The headline Republican contest is the governor's race, in which Barbara Kirkmeyer, Scott Bottoms, and Victor Marx are each competing for the GOP nomination. El Paso County's election office is publicly defending its security protocols after former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, released from prison June 1, claimed future elections would be rigged. County officials say their systems are fully certified and meet all state standards. Colorado's unaffiliated voters can participate by requesting a ballot from any party's primary. Completed mail ballots should be postmarked by June 22. |
Magnus' Law Signed
Gov. Jared Polis signed Magnus' Law June 4, making Colorado the first state in the nation to require law enforcement to offer breathalyzer tests at any crash involving a cyclist or pedestrian. The law honors the late Magnus White, 17, of Boulder, a competitive cyclist fatally struck by a driver in 2023. Under the new law, officers must offer a voluntary preliminary breath screening test to any driver involved in a crash causing serious injury or death and must investigate potential impairment whenever a crash involves a cyclist or pedestrian, regardless of injury severity. |
Boulder Jewish Festival Honors Victims
Hundreds gathered in Boulder Sunday for the Boulder Jewish Festival, marking the festival's 30th anniversary and over one year since the firebombing attack on Pearl Street Mall. Festival organizers said this year’s event focused on resilience, unity, and Jewish culture while honoring victims of the June 1, 2025, attack, which left Karen Diamond, 82, dead, and 12 others injured. A plaque was unveiled at the scene of the attack, in front of the old courthouse, acknowledging survivors and remembering Diamond. “Jewish tradition teaches us about holding space for grief and mourning and also moving from that in joy,” Jonathan Lev, executive director of the Boulder Jewish Community Center, said. |
