Students in some Central Georgia schools will start classes as early as July 29, and many other schools in the state will resume by the first week of August.

In Augusta, the Salvation Army launched a school supply drive, citing an increase in the number of homeless students in the community.

New this school year, Georgia classrooms will reintroduce cursive writing for grades 3–5, a throwback aimed at boosting retention and motor skills.

The FBI's Atlanta field office shut down several major websites accused of distributing pirated video games, causing an estimated $170 million in industry losses in recent months.

Sites like nsw2u.com and ps4pkg.net allegedly offered illegal downloads of popular games, often before the games' official release dates.

The FBI field office seized the websites' domain names and dismantled their backend infrastructure. The sites now display a federal seizure notice.

A Savannah newspaper's review of state-by-state marijuana laws found recreational pot remains illegal in a slight majority of U.S. states, including Georgia and most other Southern states.

Twenty-four states now permit recreational marijuana use, according to the review, based on a report from U.S. News and World Report.

Almost all states, including Georgia, now allow the medical use of low-THC marijuana to registered patients, the report said.
