The historic Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim has been destroyed by wildfire, along with the visitor center, gas station, wastewater plant, and dozens of other structures, park officials said Sunday. The Dragon Bravo Fire was originally managed as a controlled burn to clear brush and reduce future fire risk, but it escaped control last week when high temperatures, gusty winds, and dry conditions fueled its rapid spread to more than 5,000 acres. Meanwhile, the nearby White Sage Fire—sparked by lightning during a recent thunderstorm—has grown to over 19,000 acres near Jacob Lake, forcing evacuations and stretching fire crews thin. As of Sunday afternoon, both fires remained uncontained, and the entire North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is closed until further notice. | New Flood Threat Pauses Texas Search Efforts Officials in Central Texas halted search efforts for victims of the July 4 floods, as another flood threat hit the affected area Sunday. Some areas reported 6 to 10 inches of rain, and the Lampasas and San Saba rivers surged about 30 inches, causing authorities to direct all search crews to "evacuate the river corridor" at around 8 a.m. local time. Heavy rains lingered over Texas Hill Country through Sunday morning, with a flash flood warning in effect until about noon local time. Over 160 people are still missing, including about a dozen from Camp Mystic. | Two Killed in Kentucky Church Shooting Two women were killed in a shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, after a suspect shot and wounded a state trooper near the airport. The suspect then carjacked a vehicle and fled to the church, where the shooting occurred. Authorities believe the suspect may have had a connection to the victims at the church, but the motive remains under investigation. The suspect was later killed by police in a standoff. Governor Andy Beshear praised the swift response of law enforcement, while the investigation continues.
