DeSantis Discusses Redistricting

Gov. Ron DeSantis suggested overhauling Florida's congressional district map again on Thursday ahead of the midterm elections. The move comes after the state Supreme Court upheld the map he championed three years ago.

"Florida, you know, we got a raw deal on the census," DeSantis said. "We only got one seat when some of these other states were getting seats, when we've obviously had more growth. We should have gotten at least two."

Democrats opposed the move, with Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried accusing DeSantis of "gerrymandering."

Florida's congressional delegation has 20 Republicans and eight Democrats.

Restoration Begins on Historic Pier

Restoration has begun on the Flagler Beach Pier, causing parking headaches for local businesses.

Several restaurants along A1A reported losing up to 50% of their business in the first three days of construction.

"I wasn't expecting that, but we'll adjust," said Scott Fox, owner of Tortugas Florida Kitchen and Bar.

Originally built in 1928, the pier had suffered damage from Hurricanes Matthew, Ian, and Nicole, closing to the public in 2022. The city hopes to reopen the pier next year.
