Good Morning! On this day in 1960, the last Havana-Key West car ferry left Cuba with 287 passengers and 86 cars aboard. The service officially ended for lack of riders, as tensions with Fidel Castro's new government mounted. A North Bay Village man spotted a dolphin struggling in Biscayne Bay from his apartment window, then flew his drone out to guide officers to it. See how the rescue ended in Et Cetera. The toilet gets scrubbed every week. So why do scientists say it’s one of the cleanest spots in the house? Today, we count down the seven biggest germ hotspots in the average home. Which refrigerator drawer tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria? What morning ritual grows mold in half of homes? Why would a microbiologist rather make a sandwich next to the toilet than in most kitchens? Amy has the answers on today’s episode of The Flyover Podcast. Tune in here!
Today’s sponsor, Fisher Investments, is offering a guide for tips and advice on creating a retirement strategy that’s cohesive, current, and aligned with your full financial picture.

King Tides Continue to Batter Florida's Coasts
King tides and strong winds collapsed the stairs and ocean-facing deck of a Melbourne Beach motel on State Road A1A this week. The surf stripped away so much sand that some oceanfront rooms at the Melbourne Beach Resort are taped off. Hurricanes Ian and Nicole battered the same property in 2022. Brevard County plans to tally the damage and seek federal help for 2027 beach renourishment. Along the Indian River Lagoon, high water pushed salt water up through storm drains onto Indian River Drive. The county says a permanent fix could top $1 billion, a cost it calls financially infeasible. In Miami Beach, water breached a seawall and flooded southbound Collins Avenue Thursday, and Fort Lauderdale closed some roads during the week. Coastal flood advisories for Miami-Dade and Broward ran through Friday evening. |
Cape Canaveral Outpaces the Apollo Era
Rocket launches from Cape Canaveral are now outpacing those of the Cold War-era space race that made the site famous. The Space Force command overseeing the Cape supported a record 109 orbital launches in 2025. In April, it handled five different rocket types in one month, breaking a record that dated to the 1960s. A Space Force vision plan projects the Cape could host about 1,200 launches a year by 2036. The buildout supports President Trump's goal of 1,000 U.S. launches a year by 2030. Leaders are racing to bring more rocket companies to America's busiest spaceport amid growing competition with China in space. "We're definitely in one of those boom cycles right now," said Jamie Draper, director of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum. |
Philo Returns as Gators Face Georgia
No. 17 Florida takes the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party indoors today, facing No. 3 Georgia at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the first meeting outside Jacksonville since 1995. Aaron Philo will return as the starter after a shoulder injury kept him out of Florida’s 27-24 comeback win at Texas. The Georgia native holds the state’s high school record for career passing yards and said in the spring that he wants to beat UGA “real bad.” Jon Sumrall aims to follow in the footsteps of Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer by winning his debut Cocktail Party amid a season that has swung from big victories to blowout losses. Georgia has won five straight meetings and leads the series 57-44-2 by Florida’s count, or 58-44-2 by its own, including a disputed 1904 game. |
