Good Morning! On this day in 1886, the last rivet was fitted into the new Statue of Liberty during the official dedication of the monument, presided over by President Grover Cleveland and attended by French and American dignitaries. Harrison Ford turned 84 this summer, and the paparazzi caught him looking better in cycling gear than most men half his age. He isn't on any secret regimen, just tennis, bike rides, and a little lifting, which trainers say is close to the perfect routine for the over-80 crowd. See how he does it in Wisdom Wednesday. Go-Go. Slow-Go. No-Go. Financial planners say retirement isn’t one long vacation. It’s three distinct chapters, and each one has its own price tag. When does each chapter begin? How big does the nest egg need to be? Which classic rule of thumb just got a haircut? And which bill keeps growing no matter what? Whether you’re retired, about to retire, or still planning, today’s Flyover Podcast is for you. One question surprises almost everyone. Could you need less money than you’ve been told? Listen here to find out. Today’s sponsor, HeyPolo, helps you check that loved ones made it home with family location sharing, letting you control who sees your location and for how long. |

Israel Election Ends with No Clear Winner
Israelis voted Tuesday in their first national election since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack, and exit polls showed no clear winner, leaving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s fate in the balance. Netanyahu, 77, is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, and many voters saw the race as a referendum on his leadership. His main rival is former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, whose son was killed fighting in Gaza. Exit polls gave the opposition bloc 52 to 53 seats and Netanyahu’s bloc 50, both short of the 61 needed to control the 120-seat parliament, the Knesset. Arab parties won 17 to 18 seats and could decide who governs. Preliminary results are expected today, but forming a governing coalition could take weeks or months. If talks fail, Israelis go back to the polls. |
King Tides Bring Floods on Both Coasts
Coastal flood warnings stretch from Southern California to the Carolinas this week after Sunday night’s full Hunter’s Moon pushed seawater onto roads and up to doorsteps. You can see a video here. In South Florida, warnings are in effect this evening for coastal Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Parts of Fort Lauderdale flooded twice in one day, crews in Hollywood pumped water off the roads, and beachfront shops stacked sandbags at their doors. The city told residents it can’t pump the streets dry because the ocean itself is the source. When tide levels are that high, there is nowhere for the water to go until the tide drops. Saltwater also eats at cars that drive through it. California’s warnings hold through Thursday afternoon, with tides there running more than a foot above what forecasters predicted. The next round arrives Nov. 6-9. |
FTC Sues Dollar General Over Pricing
The Federal Trade Commission and 20 states sued Dollar General on Monday, alleging the discount chain routinely charges shoppers more at the register than the price marked on the shelf. The complaint, filed in federal court in Tennessee, says the company mislabeled prices for years and collected millions of dollars in overcharges across its 21,000 stores. Alabama, Florida, Ohio, and Tennessee are among the states that signed on. Regulators say the chain failed thousands of state pricing inspections and fielded tens of thousands of customer complaints without putting safeguards in place. Dollar General said its goal is 100% accuracy between shelf and register prices, that occasional discrepancies occur at any retailer, and that it will vigorously defend the litigation. The suit seeks a permanent injunction plus money for affected shoppers.

Your kid is out late. You text, "Home yet?" No reply.
That’s the exact moment family locator apps were built for. But here’s what most people don’t know: many popular tracking apps fund themselves by selling your family’s location data to third-party brokers.
You decide who sees your location, how precise it is, and how long it lasts. Your data is never tracked, stored, or sold. Best of all, setup takes just a few minutes, no technical skills required, and your whole family can use it at no extra cost.
