A Colorado woman who attended prom with a Pennsylvania doctor 35 years ago has donated a kidney to help save his life.

Elena Hershey learned through mutual friends that Dr. Shawn Moyer needed a third kidney transplant after his previous transplants failed.

Though not a direct biological match for Moyer, Hershey donated her kidney through a "paired exchange" program last summer, which guaranteed him priority for a transplant within six months.

Moyer received the call on Feb. 14 that a kidney was available, with the surgery successfully completed last Thursday.

"It's just a remarkable thing for somebody to do," said Moyer of Hershey's life-saving gift, while Hershey described her decision simply: "A few weeks of having to rest and a few days of discomfort to extend someone's life? It really is kind of a no-brainer." Watch a report here.

Don Barnett, 94, serenades his 93-year-old wife, Marilyn, every night before bed—a tradition they've maintained for about 50 years.

This ritual began when Don discovered that singing to Marilyn pleased her and helped them both feel calm, especially after disagreements.

Their son, Doug, noted that they never miss this nightly serenade, even continuing it when Marilyn was hospitalized after breaking her hip.

Don believes that singing to his spouse shows a deeper level of care than a simple "Goodnight, honey." See a photo of the couple here.

Seamus, a 5-month-old miniature donkey in Canada, is being trained as a therapy animal to provide comfort to those in need.

The donkey follows a daily routine that includes indoor visits to acclimate him to human environments before he eventually joins two horses and a mule.

Seamus’ owner, Dana Blackmore, plans to build a barn on newly acquired farmland where she hope to establish a formal therapy animal program.

"He's going to have a role to play in bringing some smiles," Blackmore said. Follow her on Instagram.
