The Trump administration on Monday delayed planned tariffs on Canada and Mexico for at least a month while continuing negotiations, while tariffs on China will be implemented today. The White House first announced a delay on the proposed 25% tariff on Mexico after President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to send 10,000 soldiers to the border to help prevent drug trafficking. Meanwhile, Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had two conversations Monday, agreeing to pause tariffs following the agreement with Mexico. Canada will enhance northern border security and also address fentanyl trafficking, implementing a $1.3 billion border plan. The Dow made a significant comeback on Monday, recovering steep losses from earlier in the day after news that the tariffs would be temporarily paused. | U.S. Foreign Aid Agency Locked down President Donald Trump is ready to close the U.S. Agency for International Development, a primary source of funding for political and humanitarian programs worldwide, according to Elon Musk. "He agreed we would shut it down," Musk said. USAID, a President Kennedy-era initiative to counter Soviet influence, has faced criticism from Republicans since 1991 for being wasteful and promoting a liberal agenda. In 2023, it spent about $40 billion on various programs worldwide, some of which have drawn controversy. Dozens of senior USAID officials have been put on leave, thousands of contractors laid off, and employees were told Monday not to enter its Washington headquarters. And USAID's website and its account on the X platform have been taken down.
Some Democratic Party legislators sought Monday to enter the agency's headquarters in protest.
