Good Morning! On this day in 2023, the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas launched an attack on Israel by land, sea, and air, killing nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals, and taking 251 hostages into Gaza. Chivalry is alive and well at 35,000 feet. Yesterday in our poll, 59% of you said a man should give his wife or girlfriend a first-class upgrade, and hundreds wrote in. One frequent flier said that when he gets upgraded and his wife doesn't, he hands his seat to whoever is sitting next to her in coach. Another kept it simple: "Wife, yes. Girlfriend, optional but probably not. Wife is permanent." Neck pain is one of the most common aches afflicting people, and in many cases, doctors can't pinpoint a single cause. It could be your posture, your pillow, or something else entirely. But physical therapists say there's a fix that works better than rest or painkillers, and it takes just a few minutes a day. So what's really behind your neck pain, and which five exercises can help you strengthen your way out of it? Amy has the full story on today's episode of The Flyover Podcast. Tune in here! Today’s sponsor, Kara Water, is developing patented technology that turns humidity in the air into clean drinking water, with products spanning water dispensers, coffee machines, and self-refilling pet bowls. |

France Riots Grow as Arrests Pass 6,500
More than 250,000 people marched across France on Tuesday, the biggest day yet of a nearly three-week high school revolt. Riot police fired tear gas in Paris, Marseille, Rennes, and Strasbourg. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu told lawmakers 715 officers and 215 students have been injured, and arrests have passed 6,500, most of them minors. He accused Jean-Luc Mélenchon's far-left party of seeking to "sow chaos" before next spring's presidential election, even as the Paris crowd greeted Mélenchon with chants of "Mélenchon Président!" The revolt began in Seine-Saint-Denis, the district just north of Paris, where students say they are protesting teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and crumbling schools. Immigrants make up about 32% of the population there, triple the national rate, and the same suburbs erupted in nationwide riots in 2005 and 2023. President Trump responded Tuesday on Truth Social: "What's happening in France is nothing less than out of control mass migration. This isn't about schools, this is about Islam wanting to take over a once great Country!" |
Car Loans Stretch to Record 84 Months
More than one in five new-car buyers are now stretching their loans to a record seven years or longer, and the average monthly payment still climbed to an all-time high of $787 in the third quarter, according to new, third-quarter data. Buyers financed a record $44,664 on average, while the typical down payment slipped to $5,554. One in five new-car buyers now commits to $1,000 or more a month. Interest rates haven't moved, with the average APR flat at 7%, but bigger balances over longer terms push lifetime interest to nearly $10,000 per loan. Meanwhile, the average price of a new car reached $50,089 in August, up 1.9% from a year earlier, according to the latest data available from auto-pricing company Kelley Blue Book. |
Televangelist Jim Bakker Dies at 86
Jim Bakker, the televangelist who co-hosted The PTL Club with his first wife, Tammy Faye, and built an evangelical empire that drew up to 13 million nightly viewers, died Monday at age 86. The cause of death wasn't disclosed. Their empire unraveled in 1987 when Bakker admitted to a sexual encounter with church secretary Jessica Hahn, who said he assaulted her, and stepped down. The Rev. Jerry Falwell took over, and Bakker never regained control. He was convicted of fraud in 1989 and sentenced to 45 years in prison, a term later reduced to eight. Tammy Faye divorced him while he was incarcerated and died of colon cancer in 2007. Paroled in 1994 after about five years, Bakker wrote the memoir I Was Wrong, resettled near Branson, Missouri, married Lori Graham in 1998, and launched The Jim Bakker Show in 2003, still on the air at his death.
