Good morning! On this day in 1942, Bernice Johnson Reagon, a civil rights activist and singer, was born in Albany.

The 2026 Georgia National Fair kicks off Oct. 8. Will you be attending the event this year? Let us know in today’s Poll.

In case you missed it on The Flyover Podcast, Ayla counted down the seven pets linked to longer lives. One study that followed 3.4 million people over 12 years found that owners of a particular pet were 40% less likely to die during that period, and it's not the one you'd guess. Some surprising animals made the cut, and the pet that landed at No. 1 isn't even the most popular choice in American homes. Ayla ran through the full countdown and the research behind each one. Tune in here!

Today’s sponsor, Dr. Steven Gundry, is sharing why he recommends an alternative to bone broth for collagen support and the simple “collagen reset technique” he says can help your body support its own collagen production.

Oyster Harvest Season Delayed

Georgia has delayed the wild oyster harvest because coastal waters remain too warm, keeping the season that normally opens Oct. 1 closed.

The state shuts down wild oyster harvesting every June through September. Vibrio bacteria, which can sicken people, are typically found in higher concentrations once coastal water surpasses 81 degrees.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources extended the closure and will reopen the harvest once temperatures fall back below that line and conditions allow.

It's only the second time the state has pushed the season past Sept. 30. The only other time was in 2018.

Arrest Made in Decades-Old Cold Case

Twenty-eight years after Christy Dawn Myers was found dead beside her car on Broxton-Fitzgerald Highway in Coffee County, a man was arrested and charged in her murder.

James Lawrence III, 47, of Irwin County faces malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault charges.

Myers, 20, left her Broxton home on Sept. 14, 1998, for an evening store run. Witnesses saw her leave the store alone and her body was found after midnight, officials say.

Lawrence was linked to the incident through forensic evidence, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Georgia National Fair Opens Thursday

The 2026 Georgia National Fair begins Thursday in Perry and runs through Oct. 18.

The 11-day event will feature rides, concerts, livestock competitions, and more.

A highlight of the fair is its Food Fight culinary competition. Nine judges will pick winners from 23 entries at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 in the Miller Murphy Howard Building, with fairgoers voting separately for a Fan Favorite.

Last year, the Tybee Island Dog, Cookie Butter Sandwich Extravaganza, and Death by Chocolate Mini Donuts were crowned winners.

Tickets for the event can be purchased here.

Doctor unveils dark bone broth secret (avoid now)

If you think bone broth is a great way to get collagen, think again.

According to a former surgeon, animal bones are known for absorbing heavy metals.

This can potentially lead to brain fog, fatigue, or even muscle weakness.

That's why he recommends a "collagen reset technique" instead.

To his knowledge, it's the only technique that can help your body build its own collagen.

Anyone can do it without drinking broths.

California Surgeon: “Muscle Loss in Seniors is Real, But It Doesn't Have to Be”

If you think collagen is only for supporting healthier skin, hair, and nails, think again.

Not only does it play a role in holding the teeth in your mouth, keeping your heart walls intact, and reinforcing your gut lining…

It's also what allows you to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities without getting tired.

But unfortunately, eating more collagen isn't the answer.

That’s why Dr. Steven Gundry has created what he calls the “collagen reset technique.”

And to his knowledge, it’s the only technique that’s designed to help your body build its own collagen.
