Some new laws took effect in Florida on Thursday, including three health-related bills.

The first measure eliminates additional copayments, deductibles, and other cost-sharing requirements for state employees' diagnostic and supplemental breast examinations.

Another bill requires facilities to issue a refund within 30 days for patients who accidentally overpaid their medical bills or face a fine.

A third bill protects the health of furry friends by classifying pet insurance as property insurance, providing stronger consumer protections.

Hundreds of manatees were seen huddling together at Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River to stay warm on New Year's Eve in a video released by Southwest Florida Water Management.

The spring-fed water maintains a relatively consistent temperature, measuring 65.8 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday, while air temperatures were around 35 degrees.

Southwest Florida Water Management officials say a project that improved water quality in the area has made it a good spot for manatees to stay warm during the winter.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has overseen the investment of $380 million since 2019 to restore Florida's springs.
