Dallas leaders are ready to negotiate to keep the Stars after Plano voters rejected a tax for the team’s planned arena, with city council members Adam Bazaldua and Paula Blackmon saying the team belongs in its namesake city.

About 55% of Plano voters opposed Proposition A, which would have taxed hotel rooms, parking and car rentals to cover up to $700 million of a $1 billion arena at the Shops at Willow Bend.

The Stars say they’ll keep working with Plano as it seeks a project finance zone from the Legislature, though the city says financing must be reassessed.

The team’s Dallas lease expires in 2031, the year the Plano arena was set to open.

Houston-area voters rejected every school funding measure on the Nov. 3 ballot, sinking more than $2 billion in bonds and five tax increases across six districts, according to unofficial results.

Rice University’s Mark Jones called it “really a bad year” to ask voters for more amid affordability worries.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD took the biggest hit as voters rejected all five propositions, including a $1.64 billion bond and a tax increase to help cover an $80 million deficit. About 10 of its campuses have had major air-conditioning failures this school year, some sending students home.

Superintendent Doug Killian didn’t rule out closures or program cuts and said the district may return with a smaller bond for roofs and HVAC. Budget meetings are planned before winter break.

Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene broke ground on Thursday on a $78 million Mission Planning Facility, at the base's first project built solely for the B-21 Raider stealth bomber.

Base commander Col. Robert Sturgill called the 46,000-square-foot building the “nerve center” of the future B-21 campus, where conventional and nuclear missions will be planned.

Dyess will be the B-21’s third home, after Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. Sen. Ted Cruz, who spoke at the ceremony, said the bomber “will bring jobs, economic activity and investment to West Texas.”

The facility is part of a $1.6 billion modernization plan of more than 24 projects over the next decade, which began with a $26.7 million fuels complex last December.
