Good Morning! On this day in 1928, Texas voters chose Republican Herbert Hoover over Democrat Al Smith, making Hoover the first Republican presidential candidate to carry the state. No Republican would win Texas again until Texas-born Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952.

Hinojosa Names Transition Team
Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa named a bipartisan transition team Thursday at her first post-election press conference in Austin, two days after defeating Gov. Greg Abbott.
Former Republican lawmaker Ernest Bailes and building trades union leader Ryan Pollock will co-chair the team, with 23-year government veteran Joe Madden as executive director. "I am going to be a governor for all of Texas," Hinojosa said.
Hinojosa said Abbott has been "gracious" and promised a smooth handoff. Asked about Republican lawmakers seeking to check Democrats' power before January, she said voters "want change" and urged both parties not to "get in the way."
The Brownsville native also asked Texas Parks and Wildlife to hold off on any action involving about 1,300 acres of public land near Boca Chica Beach and SpaceX's Starbase. A draft commission agenda had listed the land's possible transfer before the item was dropped.

Democrats Eye Education Changes
Democrat state Sen. Sarah Eckhardt of Austin unseated Republican Comptroller Don Huffines by roughly 6 percentage points Tuesday, becoming the first Democrat to run the state's checkbook since 1999.
Eckhardt argued against Education Freedom Accounts, the state's $1 billion school-choice program, on the Senate floor, but says she'll "vigorously follow the money" once she takes office in January. The founder of a private school in Houston says enrollment has jumped 200% since the program launched.
Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa has vowed to "repair the damage of the Texas voucher scam." But the program is written into state law, and only legislators can undo it.
Control of the State Board of Education, which sets what Texas schools teach and approves charter schools, comes down to one undecided seat. Democrat Dana Van de Walker was leading Republican incumbent Audrey Young by fewer than 600 votes on Thursday.

Suspect Charged in Deep Ellum Shooting
Federal and Dallas authorities announced Thursday that a 31-year-old man faces seven mass-shooting charges from one of three Deep Ellum shootings that killed four people and wounded 15 over Halloween weekend.
David Yancy turned himself in after police released surveillance video Wednesday showing him pulling a handgun from his waistband. Investigators say he then fired at least 11 rounds into a crowd. He also faces a federal gun charge.
Police are still hunting the gunmen who killed four people. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux urged them to come forward, saying, "The first one who comes always gets the best deal."
The arrest comes days after U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould launched Operation Deep Cover, which sends more uniformed and plainclothes officers into the nightlife district. Cases brought under the program go to federal court, where those convicted are more likely to serve full sentences.
