Iran Threatens to Block Trade Across Persian Gulf
Iran threatened Wednesday to fully block exports and imports across the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea, a move that could compound one of the worst oil market disruptions in history. The U.S. military announced its naval blockade of Iranian ports has been fully implemented, completely halting Iran's seaborne trade. At least nine vessels have now been turned around, with none breaking through. President Trump said Wednesday that the war is "very close to over," with in-person U.S.-Iran peace talks potentially resuming this week. Vice President Vance expressed optimism after leading the highest-level U.S.-Iran negotiations in nearly 50 years. Uranium enrichment remains a key sticking point, with the U.S. seeking a 20-year suspension and Iran offering five years. |
New Video Shows Principal Tackling Armed Gunman
A high school principal in Oklahoma is shown on newly released security footage tackling an armed gunman inside the Pauls Valley High School lobby last week, preventing what police say could have been a mass shooting at the school. You can see the video here. The principal, Kirk Moore, was shot in the leg during the confrontation but survived. The video captures Moore charging the suspect from behind and pinning him down on a bench. Another school employee then helped disarm the man. Victor Hawkins, 20, a former student, has been charged with shooting with intent to kill and other felonies. Investigators say he told them he wanted to carry out an attack modeled on the 1999 Columbine massacre. |
Ranking: Where Young Adults Still Live at Home
A new ranking of which states have the most young adults still living with their parents shows that New Jersey tops the nation, with 44.1% of adults ages 18–34 still living at home, the highest rate in the country by a wide margin. High-cost Northeastern and coastal states consistently dominate the top of the rankings, while more affordable states like North Dakota, at just 12.3%, fall to the bottom. Nationally, about one in three young adults now live with their parents, a figure that remains well above historical norms, despite easing slightly from the 2020 pandemic peak. Rising housing costs continue to delay independence for many young Americans, and experts say this trend now appears structural rather than temporary. See the full ranking map here.
