Lowe's Home Improvement laid off about 600 corporate employees on Friday, with the Mooresville-based company saying the cuts, including support staff, affected less than 1% of its total workforce.

The retailer, which operates more than 1,700 stores nationwide, said it is helping impacted employees with financial assistance, continued benefits, and career transition resources.

Lowe's has recently embarked on an aggressive acquisition strategy to bolster its professional customer segment. In October, the firm acquired Foundation Building Materials for $8.8 billion, following a $1.3 billion deal for Artisan Design Group in June.

North Carolina's confirmed measles cases rose from 18 to 21 on Friday after health officials reported a new case in Johnston County, the county's first since 2018.

State data show 18 of the 21 infections are in children, particularly those who were unvaccinated or had not yet received both recommended doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella, or MMR, vaccine.

Measles symptoms typically appear seven to 14 days after infection, according to the CDC. Initial symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.
