Thanksgiving to Set New Travel Record

According to AAA, Thanksgiving travel this year is expected to set a new record. More than 81.8 million travelers are expected to hit the road, skies, and sea this year, with Florida cities topping the list.

Orlando is the top domestic destination for the holiday weekend, according to the Federation of Motor Clubs. Beyond Orlando, AAA found that Fort Lauderdale and Miami were the second and third-most popular Thanksgiving destinations, respectively.

The FAA is preparing for its busiest Thanksgiving week in 15 years, with more than 360,000 flights scheduled between Monday and next Tuesday. That's more than 17.8 million people that the TSA will screen.

AAA projects 1.3 million more travelers will be on the roads than last year, pushing the total number of people traveling by car to at least 73 million.

Self-service car registration renewal kiosks will soon be available at more locations throughout Florida, as five Publix locations in Hollywood, Coconut Creek, Plantation, Coral Springs, and Cooper City become available. For each renewal, a $4.50 service fee applies, along with a 2.3% credit card processing fee.

Broward County is the latest in the Sunshine State to add the service near the Publix Supermarket checkout lanes. Four kiosks were installed at Publix locations in Volusia County last week in Port Orange, Ormond Beach, DeLand, and Edgewater.

During the store's opening hours, drivers can access their account by entering the PIN sent with their license renewal notice. Anyone who doesn't have a PIN can enter their license plate number and the date of birth of the first name listed on the registration.

The kiosks were first introduced this past summer in Miami-Dade County, allowing drivers to skip the DMV and print their decal tags in under two minutes.

Survey: Older Residents Anxious About Costs

Floridians aged 45 and older are expressing increased anxiety about their financial security, health care access, and housing stability, according to AARP Florida's Vital Voices survey.

The statewide report, conducted every three years to identify the top issues facing older residents, painted a picture of deepening economic strain and persistent uncertainty regarding the cost of living and future government support programs.

Florida's population of individuals aged 65 and older continues to grow at a faster rate than nearly any other age group in the state. Roughly one in five Floridians, over 5 million people, receive Social Security benefits.
