Own The Flyover — Invest Today → | | | December Bear Hunt Will Proceed On Monday, Leon County Circuit Judge Angela Dempsey rejected Bear Warriors United's request for a temporary injunction to halt the state's first black bear hunt in a decade. With the three-week hunt set to begin Dec. 6, the judge said that the Central Florida-based nonprofit was unable to show "substantial likelihood of success on the merits" in its lawsuit challenging the hunt. Supporters of the hunt point to increased interactions between bears and humans, with the fear of attacks and damage. Arguing against the hunt was biologist Darcy Doran-Myers, who previously worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and helped write the agency's 2019 bear management plan. Ten years ago, 304 bears were killed in two days during the licensed hunt. This year, 172 bear tags have been issued. The FWC has called it a measured approach to reducing and redistributing the bear population. | Cruise Ship Death Ruled a Homicide The Nov. 6 death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner aboard a Carnival cruise ship has been officially ruled a homicide. According to a death certificate provided by Kepner's family, the cause of death was strangulation. The document states that Kepner, whose body was found under a bed in her cruise ship room, "was mechanically asphyxiated by other person(s)," though the time of death remains unknown. The Miami-Dade medical examiner has not released autopsy or toxicology reports and declined to comment on the case. The FBI has also not commented. A court filing in an unrelated family court matter suggested that Kepner's stepbrother, a minor, could face charges, though no charges have been filed yet. | Adopt a Fire Station Returns Orange County has revived its annual Adopt a Fire Station program for the 2025 holiday season, inviting families and community groups to support firefighters during the holidays. Firefighters said the visits, meals, and appreciation strengthen their bond with the community, allowing them to get to know one another in a non-life-threatening situation. "The adopt a fire station program is great because the fire department is interwoven with the fabric of the community, and so it allows the community to come and visit with the firefighters at the station," Battalion Chief Thomas Veal said. Sign-ups are now open to the public through Dec. 1 for all 45 Orange County fire stations. | | | Flying together with our sponsor Neil Armstrong's SHOCKING Apollo 11 Confession: You won't see THIS in any history book.
