Article Icon 1Trump Visits Texas, Assesses Flood Response

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania visited the Texas Hill Country on Friday in the wake of the July 4 floods. They were joined by Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, and Agriculture Sec. Brooke Rollins.

The Trumps traveled from Kelly Field Air Base to Kerrville to survey damage along the Guadalupe River, where the president met with about 30 first responders.

Trump attended a roundtable discussion with Texas officials later in the afternoon and met with families of some of those who lost their lives.

"It's a horrible thing, horrible thing," Trump said before leaving the White House. "Nobody can even believe it. That much water, that fast."

Article Icon 1Search Continues for Flood Victims

Search efforts continued Friday for more than 160 people still missing following last week's flooding. No confirmed discoveries were made, likely due to the amount of silt covering affected areas.

The United Cajun Navy, a Louisiana-based volunteer organization, discovered the remains of a trailer buried upside down in silt, with only its tires protruding above the surface.

Meanwhile, forecasters are projecting that this week's high temperatures in the Hill Country may be followed by heavy rains and more potential flooding.

Article Icon 1L.A. Tops Texas Cities in BBQ Ranking

The annual ranking of America's best barbecue cities from Austin-based LawnStarter dropped earlier this month, with an unhappy surprise for Texas barbecue fans.

While the Lone Star State placed Houston and Austin in the Top 5, some Texans objected to the idea that no Texas city could top Los Angeles, which took the No. 2 spot ahead of No. 3 Houston.

LawnStarter assessed 13 metrics for the rankings, including the number of barbecue restaurants in a city and the average rating of smokehouses, but hometown die-hards are questioning the methodology.

Austin ranked No. 5, while San Antonio and Dallas took No. 11 and No. 13, respectively. Kansas City topped the list. The full rankings are here.
