We'd love to welcome him back with a wave of encouragement from the people he serves every day: you. If you'd like to send David a get-well note, just reply to this email. We'll make sure he sees every message. Let's fill his inbox with support from across The Flyover Florida family. We're sponsored today by a Flyover favorite, the Sonic Glow Toothbrush. Ron DeSantis, has made Florida the first state in the nation to require electrocardiogram (ECG) screenings for high school student-athletes. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, students who want to participate in interscholastic athletic competition must complete an ECG screening the first time they try out for a school sports team. Students can attend a Who We Play For screening event, visit a physician, or go through their school's athletic department. The test, which is painless and only takes a few minutes to complete, detects heart conditions that can cause sudden cardiac arrest and death. | Line-Item Vetoes Include Tax Study Among Gov. Ron DeSantis' nearly $600 million in line-item vetoes in the new state budget was a $1 million study on the potential impacts of eliminating the property tax in Florida. At a news conference in Wildwood, DeSantis said officials don't need more data while also calling for a ballot measure next year to kill ad valorem taxes on homesteaded property. "We know what needs to be done, so let's just do it," DeSantis said, "and we will do it." Other vetoed items include $6.25 million in funding for Ocklawaha River Restoration, $14 million for a new hangar for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and over $5.7 million for public radio and TV stations. | New Hurricane Recovery Law Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a measure to accelerate hurricane recovery, fortify communities, and enhance government coordination ahead of future storms. Effective immediately, the law outlines over a dozen changes to Florida's emergency response laws, from post-storm permitting and debris management to disaster spending transparency and local land use regulations. Proponents say that it will strengthen the state and community planning processes before and after natural disasters and provide homeowners with clear, streamlined permit resources for rebuilding. Those who oppose the law say that while it seems well-intentioned, the legislation lacks key details and overly preempts local land and growth management. | | Flying together with our sponsor Celebrate a brighter smile this 4th of July with the Sonic Glow Brush—now on special holiday offer!
