Officials have confirmed at least 119 deaths in six counties from the devastating flash floods on July 4. Following an aerial survey of the damage on Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott said 161 people are missing in Kerr County alone.

Abbott reacted angrily when asked who was to blame for the disaster, saying, "That's the word choice of losers." Lawmakers are expected to discuss funding for warning sirens in Kerr County and other areas of the state susceptible to flooding in the upcoming special session.

In the nation's capital, Sen. John Cornyn led a moment of silence for flood victims on the Senate floor. Gov. Abbott has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until Monday.

More than 2,000 volunteers have joined the search for victims. Helicopters, horses, airboats, cadaver dogs, and excavators have been employed to aid in the challenging task. President Trump plans to visit the disaster area on Friday.

Some well-known public figures have been impacted by the flooding in Central Texas this past weekend.

Janie Hunt, 9, was a relative of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. She passed away during the flooding at Camp Mystic, along with Hanna and Rebecca Lawrence, 8-year-old twins from Dallas. Their grandfather is David Lawrence, the former publisher of the Miami Herald.

Country singer Pat Green shared that his younger brother John, along with his wife Julia and two of their children, are among the missing. He delayed a concert scheduled for Sunday night, saying his family is "grieving alongside countless Texans whose lives have been upended by this tragedy."

Meanwhile, the grandchildren of U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) were safely evacuated from Camp Mystic, as were the daughters of U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (R-San Angelo). "They were holding hands. They were praying," Pfluger said.

Article Icon 1Growing Support for Central Texas

Corporations, public figures, and celebrities have joined in the effort to support those affected by the flash floods in Central Texas, offering financial contributions and words of encouragement.

Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Procter & Gamble, Airbnb, and Apple have all provided financial or material donations. H-E-B is delivering food to the disaster area and has pledged $5 million to support those affected by the floods.

Fort Worth country music singer Josh Weathers raised $330,000 for flood victims during a Monday night livestream. Pop singer Shakira said she would donate a portion of last Saturday's concert at the Alamodome to the Catholic Charities of San Antonio. Former Houston Texan JJ Watt donated $100,000 to a fundraiser to deliver meals.

Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey urged his followers to "lend a helping hand," saying "the shock, the pain, and the chaos need the steady hand of a neighbor." Pope Leo XIV extended his condolences "to all the families who have lost loved ones—in particular their daughters who were at summer camp."
