Federal agents descended on El Corralón, a bar and restaurant in Memphis' Berclair neighborhood, around 1 a.m. CT on Sunday in a large-scale immigration operation that advocates are calling the largest in city history.

The immigrant advocacy group Vecindarios 901 said more than 100 patrons and employees were detained and driven away on buses, a figure not independently confirmed by authorities.

ICE described it as a "multi-agency targeted enforcement operation" and released few details, while the TBI said agents executed a search warrant tied to an investigation into illegal gambling and drugs.

Mayor Paul Young said Memphis police didn't plan or carry out the raid and were called only for traffic control, calling those affected "our neighbors."

Article Icon 1Super El Niño Could Shape Tennessee's Winter

Forecasters say a rare 'super El Niño' is strengthening in the Pacific, a pattern that could shape Tennessee's coming winter.

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center now puts the odds of a very strong event this fall and winter above 90%, with a real chance it could rank among the strongest since record-keeping began in 1950.

Strong El Niño winters tend to steer the southern U.S. toward wetter, stormier, and sometimes cooler conditions, with the Southeast among the areas most likely to see above-normal precipitation.

For Tennessee, that can raise the odds of heavy rain, severe-weather setups, and wintry mixes of sleet and freezing rain when cold air arrives. Forecasters caution it's still early, and El Niño is only one factor shaping the season.

Article Icon 1Dolly Parton's Estate Announces Dollyfest

Dolly Parton's estate has announced Dollyfest, a two-day, two-continent celebration of the late star's life set for two consecutive weekends in 2027, with Nashville chosen alongside London to host.

The estate says the festival, billed as "the party of a lifetime," will stand in place of a traditional public memorial, which her manager, Danny Nozell, said isn't something Parton wanted.

The event was originally planned as a multi-artist show for her 80th birthday in January, with Parton set to perform and host, before her health forced a step back.

Parton died last week at 80 after a brief battle with cancer and was laid to rest in a private service on Friday. Dates and the lineup for Dollyfest are still to come.

Before You Spend Money on Peptides, See What Your DNA Says

Peptides have become one of the biggest topics of conversation in anti-aging, longevity, weight loss, recovery, and muscle growth. But here’s the problem: the same peptide may not work the same way for everyone.

The Pep Report analyzes more than 710,000 genetic markers and compares them against published research to help identify which peptides and nutraceuticals your biology may support.

And because your DNA doesn’t change, you only need to test it once. A simple cheek swab gives you genetic information you can reference as you explore different options, rather than spending money blindly and hoping something works.

The Flyover readers automatically get 10% off, no code needed. See which peptides match your DNA.

Article Icon 1G20 Finance Ministers Meet in Asheville

Finance ministers and central bankers from the world’s largest economies opened a G20 Finance Track ministerial meeting Sunday at Asheville’s Omni Grove Park Inn, following a deputies’ meeting over the weekend.

The four-day gathering is expected to draw more than 500 attendees and pump roughly $2 million into a Western North Carolina economy still rebuilding from Hurricane Helene. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said the Trump administration chose Asheville partly to showcase the region’s recovery.

Bessent is also using the meeting to press other nations to cut financial ties with Iran, part of a sanctions campaign he announced Aug. 24. "Any entity that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be removed from the U.S. dollar system," he said.

Interest rates, the national debt, and tariffs are also on the agenda. Outside the hotel, demonstrators lined Merrimon Avenue to protest what they called a slow pace of Helene recovery.

Article Icon 124 Agencies Rescue Climber in Linville Gorge

A National Guard Black Hawk helicopter was part of a 24-agency rescue that hoisted an injured rock climber off Shortoff Mountain in Linville Gorge on Sunday after a fall left him with multiple fractures.

The man fell 15 to 20 feet in steep, rugged terrain near the Wolf Pit Trailhead in Burke County. Ground rescuers reached him but couldn’t carry him out safely, so a North Carolina Helo-Aquatic Rescue Team crew was called in.

Three Charlotte firefighters aboard the Black Hawk helped extricate the climber, who was flown out and transferred to a medical transport helicopter. He was conscious and told rescuers it was his first time climbing that stretch of the mountain.

Burke County officials said they average about 98 rescues a year in the Linville Gorge Wilderness, though few require a helicopter.

Article Icon 1Locomotives Draw Global Crowds to Spencer

More than 30 red, white, and blue locomotives rolled into the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer this weekend for a once-in-a-lifetime display marking America’s 250th birthday.

The America 250 Locomotive Celebration gathered engines, freight cars, and cabooses from Class I, short line, and passenger railroads around the museum’s roundhouse—the largest operating roundhouse in North America, with 37 bays. One engine, the Santa Fe 5704, traveled from a museum in California.

Organizers said visitors came from as far as Australia, Canada, and England, filling hotels and restaurants across Rowan County. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of gathering," foundation administrator Marcus Neubacher said.

The Spencer site opened in 1896 as a Southern Railway repair stop between Washington and Atlanta. The three-day event ran Aug. 28-30.
