Former VP Pence to Teach in Colorado

Former Vice President Mike Pence will serve as a visiting faculty member at Colorado Christian University (CCU) in Lakewood for the 2026-27 academic year.

He is expected to be on campus once a month, giving lectures and hosting classroom discussions on constitutional government, public policy, and leadership.

CCU President Eric Hogue said the appointment brings "enduring ideas into rigorous conversation with the challenges of the present moment."

The university's fall semester starts Aug. 24.

Colorado Hit Hard by Salmonella Outbreak

Colorado and Minnesota are the hardest-hit states in a national salmonella outbreak traced to jalapeño peppers, with at least 110 cases reported in each.

At least 345 people across 27 states have been sickened with the Salmonella Javiana strain, and 36 have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

Investigators traced the peppers to Sinaloa, Mexico, and distributor Coast Citrus Distributors has agreed to recall the remaining product implicated in the outbreak.

Chipotle and Qdoba have both pulled jalapeños from their restaurants, and the CDC says neither chain is now considered an ongoing risk to consumers.

Identically Named Town 'Abandoned'

The Colorado Department of State formally declared the historic mining town of Creede abandoned last month.

Records showed the Mineral County community, home to about 300, actually consisted of two adjacent, legally distinct towns, both named Creede—a discrepancy that went unnoticed for decades.

The first Town of Creede incorporated in March 1892, while the second, then called the City of Creede, incorporated less than three months later.

The original Creede lacked a government for over 100 years, making it eligible for abandonment under state law. The remaining Creede is now the only incorporated town in the county.

No one objected to the declaration at a July 13 hearing, during which the county attorney said: “We’re here to confirm what has been known in the Creede area for many years. There is only one [Creede].”
