Good Morning! On this day in 1886, Dr. John Pemberton took a jug of his “excellent” new soda syrup down the street to Jacobs’ Pharmacy in Atlanta. The first glass of Coca-Cola went on sale that day for a nickel. (See Photo) What's better for breakfast than a plate of perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs? Redistricting Wars Hit Tennessee
The Tennessee legislature passed a new congressional map Thursday that carves up the state's only majority-black district in Memphis, sending the GOP-drawn lines to Gov. Bill Lee, who quickly signed them into law. The vote unfolded amid air horns, sirens, and chants from protesters in the gallery, while Democrats in white linked arms in the well of the chamber. Republicans approved the new map 25-5. State Rep. Justin Pearson, a Memphis Democrat running for the seat being eliminated, called the maps "racist tools of white supremacy," while fellow Rep. Justin Jones, a Democrat, burned a photo of a Confederate flag in the Capitol rotunda. Tennessee joins a wave of states redrawing their lines ahead of the midterms, with eight states having already approved new maps, including Virginia, where Democrats redrew lines to favor their party. |
Tornadoes Tear Through Mississippi
Powerful storms spawned multiple tornadoes across Mississippi on Wednesday night, damaging nearly 500 homes and injuring at least 17 people, with Lincoln and Lamar counties hit hardest. About 275 homes were damaged in Lamar County and more than 200 in Lincoln County, where 12 of the injured came from a single trailer park in Bogue Chitto. Resident Max Mahaffey said he thought the noise was thunder. "I went back to my room, and the room's gone," he said. More severe storms were expected Thursday across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, with tornado watches in effect for parts of the Southeast. |
Leavitt Welcomes Baby, Makes History
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that she gave birth to a baby girl on May 1, becoming the first person to give birth while serving in the role. Leavitt, 28, and husband Nicholas Riccio named their daughter Viviana, nicknamed "Vivi." Their toddler son is "joyfully adjusting" to life with his sister, she wrote on Instagram. Less than a week before delivery, mentalist Oz Pearlman tried guessing Leavitt's baby name at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and wrote down "Viviane," missing it by one letter. Cabinet members are filling in during her leave. Secretary of State Marco Rubio took the podium Tuesday, with other top administration officials expected to follow.

A Potential Solution to America’s 75-Year Record Beef Shortage The U.S. cattle herd has shriveled to its smallest size in 75 years. And the cost of beef is rising, recently hitting a record $243/cwt. Every pound of cattle is a valuable asset, which is why investors are watching the AgTech space. One company is delivering the solution. DIT AgTech, through its patented uDOSE™ system, turns a ranch’s existing water lines into a precision delivery tool. Their technology has already kept cattle nourished in Australia’s harshest environments. They deployed 500 dosing systems across 370,000+ cattle and sheep, proven to add up to 44 lbs. of weight per animal. Now, DIT AgTech is scaling that success into the 300-million-head market of the U.S. and Brazil. And it’s at the exact moment ranchers have the strongest incentive to maximize their herds. You have until 5/22 to invest in DIT AgTech and get 10% bonus shares. |
