A Miami federal jury on Friday convicted four South Florida men on conspiracy charges in the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.

The defendants—Arcángel Pretel Ortiz, Antonio "Tony" Intriago, James Solages, and Walter Veintemilla—were convicted on most counts, including conspiracy and material-support charges. Prosecutors argued that South Florida served as the central hub for the plot that ended with Moïse shot dead in his home in the Port-au-Prince suburbs.

The July 2021 assassination plunged Haiti into deeper political turmoil that continues today. The verdict closes a key chapter of the case, though many questions remain about who ultimately ordered the hit.

Spirit's shutdown stranded thousands of Florida travelers and left a wide-open gap in the state's budget flight market.

JetBlue wasted no time, announcing 11 new Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport routes, including six all-new destinations. The airline now expects nearly 130 daily departures from Fort Lauderdale this summer, 75% more than in 2025.

Southwest plans to beef up its presence at Orlando International Airport with new flights to Arkansas, California, Kansas, and Texas, as well as St. Maarten and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and increased service on 17 existing routes.

Former Spirit fliers get a consolation prize: JetBlue is offering a loyalty status match so Free Spirit Silver and Gold members can transfer their perks into JetBlue's TrueBlue Mosaic program.

Article Icon 1DeSantis Signs Foreign Influence Restriction Law

Gov. DeSantis signed the FIRE Act on Friday, tightening Florida's protections against hostile foreign influence from "countries of concern" including China, Cuba, Russia, and others.

The law (HB 905) bars state agencies from financial dealings with designated terrorist organizations and adds penalties for businesses that violate foreign influence restrictions. It also creates criminal penalties for knowingly filing false declarations related to unlawful business activity involving Cuba.

A separate provision prohibits adoption and surrogacy contracts if any party is a citizen or resident of a foreign country of concern. Bill sponsor Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka cited cases of foreign nationals using surrogacy to secure U.S.-born children as a national security concern.

This year’s National Memorial Day Parade, hosted by Honorary Grand Marshal Gary Sinise, is set to be the largest in its history. It stands as a powerful tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms.

What makes this event even more meaningful is how it is funded. The American Veterans Center receives no federal funding for the parade. It is made possible entirely by private citizens who believe in honoring those who served.

Your support helps bring this national moment of remembrance to life while also funding year-round efforts to preserve veterans’ stories, educate future generations, and produce documentaries that highlight the true cost of freedom.

If honoring our veterans matters to you, this is a meaningful way to take part.
