The state also released an updated revenue estimate showing billions of tax dollars are available to spend. House Democrats said "all options" are on the table—including breaking quorum—to block a redistricting plan that could add up to five GOP seats. Later, House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) announced the membership of the committee that will tackle the issue. In the Senate, Democrats released a statement accusing Republicans of aiming to "entrench GOP power by silencing the voices of communities of color." Resolution author State Sen. Phil King (R-Weatherford) insisted race would not be a factor in the new maps. Meanwhile, Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock released an updated revenue estimate indicating lawmakers could have more than $16 billion to spend for the impending two-year budget cycle, including some $13 billion Congress recently allocated to reimburse the state for border security expenditures. | Paxton Investigating Flood Relief Scammers Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated an investigation into scams targeting flood relief donations in Central Texas. Scammers impersonating the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department tricked several donors into sending them money. One man lost $10,000 trying to buy tickets to George Strait's sold-out benefit concert this weekend in Boerne. "That's a lot of money, but I was concerned that someone stole money from people who were suffering in our state," said the unidentified victim. "It is sick and disgusting that people would use the tragedy of the devastating floods to enrich themselves by deceiving well-meaning people trying to help," Paxton said in a statement. "I will use the full weight of my office to investigate these claims and hold bad actors responsible." | Dig World Coming to Grapevine Mills Dig World, a construction-themed adventure park backed by Shark Tank entrepreneur Robert Herjavec, will open in Grapevine Mills next year. It will join other popular attractions like the immersive art installation Meow Wolf and Legoland Discovery Center. Established in Katy in 2022, the park allows children to operate full-sized construction equipment that has been modified to ensure safety. The Grapevine Mills location is partnering with Frisco-based Dude Perfect to feature construction-inspired trick-shot attractions. Co-founder Jacob Robinson was inspired to create the family-friendly attraction by his son's fascination with construction equipment. He secured funding to expand it after appearing on the popular Shark Tank TV show earlier this year. | | Flying together with our sponsor | | | ➤ A state appeals court reversed a lower court ruling that invalidated a law restricting municipalities from imposing regulations beyond those established by the state.
