Melissa Hortman and her husband. He also wounded Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in targeted attacks Saturday. Rep. Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed in their Brooklyn Park home, while Sen. Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot five miles away in Champlin. Sen. Hoffman is out of surgery and in stable condition, but his wife's condition remains unclear. Authorities identified the suspect as Vance Boelter, 57, a local businessman with an extensive background in security and military training, who exchanged gunfire with officers near the Hortman residence before fleeing the scene. Police recovered a list of potential targets from the suspect's vehicle, naming dozens of Minnesota Democrats, including Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Sen. Tina Smith, and Attorney General Keith Ellison. Gov. Walz has called the shootings "an act of targeted political violence." | Trump Protests Don't Dampen Army Parade The U.S. Army celebrated its 250th anniversary with a military parade through Washington D.C. on Saturday, while activists held nationwide protests against the Trump administration's immigration policies. Hundreds of thousands of spectators were expected for the parade, which included close to 6,600 soldiers and hundreds of vehicles and aircraft, Army officials said. The "No Kings" protest website included a reminder to protestors: "We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any confrontation with those who disagree with our values." Activists planned to protest in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. | List: Ranking the Best School Districts A report shows that Adlai E. Stevenson High School District No. 125, north of Chicago, is the top school district in the U.S. Niche evaluated over 11,000 districts to rank the nation's top 50 schools, with many top performers located in New York, Illinois, California, the Upper Midwest, and the Northeast. Schools were evaluated for academic performance, teacher quality, availability of clubs and extracurricular activities, college preparation resources, and administrative effectiveness.
