| Samaritan's Purse Airlifts to Gaza Greensboro-based Christian ministry Samaritan's Purse flew 19 tons of food packets to families in need in Gaza Friday morning, its third airlift of supplies this week. The flights, which have been landing in Tel Aviv during a pause in the fighting between Israel and Hamas, have brought a total of 65 tons of food to starving Gazans. Samaritan's Purse says each packet is enough to feed a person for one day, and has sent enough packets to feed 650,000 people. The nonprofit partners with organizations in the Middle East to help distribute the supplies. Samaritan's Purse has been in the Middle East throughout the conflict and has also provided aid to Israelis. | Car Break-Ins Continue Multiple vehicle break-ins at a Wiz Khalifa concert in Raleigh are part of a string of recent robberies at venues and neighborhoods statewide, currently under investigation. Raleigh police responded to 13 car break-ins at the concert, mostly targeting Dodges and stealing guns and cash. Authorities said they will increase patrols for upcoming events like the Mumford and Sons concert. In Davidson County, the Sheriff's Office is also investigating multiple break-ins after surveillance video showed suspects checking vehicle locks with flashlights. All five vehicles entered were unlocked. These break-ins are the latest in a string that started in mid-July, when 31 vehicles were broken into at five different churches. Police are reminding people to lock their cars and leave valuables at home. | Clear the Shelters Begins Animal shelters and rescues around the state on Friday kicked off Clear the Shelters, a month-long initiative to encourage pet adoptions and raise money. Several shelters around Charlotte are helping pets find their forever home through adoption events, including one with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control on August 23rd. Guilford County Animal Services is reducing adoption fees to $25 in the hopes that it can house the 550 animals under its care. The reduced fee lasts through the end of August. Last year's Clear the Shelters saw 170,000 pets adopted around the country, a record high for the initiative. | |
